JASON XIII:
Frozen Worlds
January 28 - February 8, 2002

JASON XIII: Frozen Worlds took students and teachers on an adventure to some of the colder regions of our planet and solar system. Alaska and the Polar Regions served as comparative venues and our laboratory for examining our three main research questions:

  • What are the dynamic systems of Earth and Space?

  • How do these systems affect life on Earth?

  • What technologies do we use to study these systems, and why?

Participants shared incredible stories of human exploration and adaptation and journeyed through the passages of geologic time to examine the global processes that have shaped the earth's colder regions and impact our planet's future.

Focused on current research in earth, ocean, atmospheric and space sciences, JASON's curricular materials encompassed a broad range of subjects including science, math, technology, geography, history, culture and language arts.
