We got our raingear and bug repellent and headed to the rainforests of Panama for JASON XV: Rainforests at the Crossroads!JASON XV engaged students and teachers in an exciting journey of discovery, exploring the Isthmus of Panama
region and its fascinating tropical rainforests. They examined the unique role the Isthmus of Panama and its tropical rainforests play in furthering our global understanding of the interchange between Earth's dynamic systems. JASON XV focused on the research, monitoring, and management of this region to better understand how it functions and how it changes through time. They looked at how human technology has influenced the geography, hydrology and biology of Panama, and how technology is
used to better understand how the world works.
The JASON XV research team also examined:
• Human history of the Isthmus of Panama
• Tropical rainforest ecosystems of Panama
• Tools and methods of scientific research
• Geology and geologic history
• Watershed and terrestrial studies
• Inter-relationships of local, regional, and global systems
• Management and monitoring of natural resources
• Comparative forest studies
