Scholarships for Canadian Undergraduate
and Graduate Students

Opportunity: A special opportunity exists for Canadian students to visit the Bermuda Biological Station for Research. This opportunity is made available in the form of scholarships from CABBS.

Eligibility: Canadian students enrolled in Canadian colleges/universities. Also eligible are Canadian students enrolled in universities outside Canada, but who intend to return to Canada after graduation.

Scholarships: Scholarships are available to cover the cost of courses and/or internships.

Courses: Scholarships can be requested in amounts up to US$3,000 to cover course costs at BBSR. Note: course costs include room, board and tuition and are listed on the BBSR Summer Program page. Funds cannot be used to cover travel expenses.

Internships: Scholarships can be requested in amounts up to US$6,000  to cover participation in a 12-week Volunteer Internship Program. Funds will be used primarily to cover the cost of intern room, board and facilities fees. A portion of these funds will be used to support a small student stipend and to cover the cost of supplies/expenses associated with the research project. Funds can not be used to cover travel expenses.
 

Application Process:

Courses: Students must apply for and be admitted into specific courses offered at BBSR. The courses offered and the application form are available on the BBSR Summer Program page. Please be sure to indicate on the application form that you wish to apply for a CABBS scholarship. This statement should be included on the application form under the heading of "Statement of Needs and Qualifications."

Internships: Students should identify a BBSR faculty member with whom they wish to intern. Potential interns should contact a faculty member and convince him/her that they should be awarded a CABBS Scholarship. Please provide a cover letter that clearly states your research interests along with a statement that clearly explains why you want to work as an intern in Bermuda with a specific faculty member. Also include a copy of your resume. The faculty member may contact you for additional information (e.g., letters of reference, transcripts, etc.). Faculty members will forward suitable applications to the Director of Education for final decisions.
 

Notification: Students are generally notified of their status starting in early April. Please contact the Admissions Officer (education(at)bbsr.edu) if you have not received word by 15 April.
