Diving Information
BIOS has a full time Dive Safety Officer (DSO) and is a member of the American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS). Complete details of BIOS's diving guidelines and FAQs are available below. Students are strongly encouraged to get basic scuba certification prior to coming to Bermuda, especially if they plan to take the Coral Reef Ecology Course. It is possible to take a commercial course while here in Bermuda and BIOS can provide interested students with information on prices. But those learning while in Bermuda will have to snorkel until they are certified. All divers at BIOS must have the proper paperwork filled out. Contact the Dive Safety Officer if you require further information.

Dive Master Fees $84 per hour or $250 per half day. The reduced half-day rate only applies to trips that begin and end within the hours shown below (see Boat Fees).

SCUBA Tanks $10 per fill. This includes use of tanks, weight belts and weights.

Join the Divers Alert Network (DAN)

Since many BIOS staff enjoy diving, the DSO periodically organizes recreational dives for the BIOS community. Students are welcome to participate. However (as for the staff) there is an extra fee. You can also dive with various commercial shops around the island.
