Joseph works as a research technician in both the Zooplankton Ecology Lab (with Amy Maas and Leocadio Blanco-Bercial) and the Biogeochemistry Lab (with Damian Grundle).

Prior to joining the team at BIOS he was enrolled at the University of Southampton's Masters (MSci) of marine biology course, where he graduated in 2016. His Masters dissertation was a collaboration between the Natural History Museum and University of Southampton in which he utilized the RRS Discovery collections (held at the museums archives) to investigate how the population structure of deep sea jellyfish (form the Porcupine Abyssal Plane) changes with daily vertical migration.
