	Jerry Goss an electrical and computer engineering major at Olin College of Engineering worked on a project to optimize the semi-automated identification of zooplankton in high-resolution images. Jerry is comparing various machine learning approaches and fine-tuning them to the zooplankton species found in the Sargasso Sea, which helps improve the success rate of identifying individual zooplankton from the images.</p>

BIOS offers university students the opportunity to gain valuable laboratory and field experience as undergraduate and graduate interns, to work on collaborative research projects alongside BIOS scientists, and to conduct supervised research toward master's or doctoral degrees.
