Instructor: Dr. James B. Wood (and others depending upon project)
Synopsis of course content
A research topic will be selected, researched and pursued. During the first half semester in
Bermuda your courses will provide you with many ideas of potential research topics. A written
proposal will be submitted prior to the end of that period outlining your research ideas. The instructor
will then guide you and work with you on your idea to develop a project. The last 7.5 weeks
of the semester will be devoted to conducting the research project. The results will be submitted
in a format for publication in the appropriate journal.
This is a six credit course. You are expected to work fulltime on your research. The instructor will
be available in the Riker Room each Monday morning and you need to provide regular progress
reports that identify where your time was spent the prior week, and delineate how you will spend
the coming week. The instructor is also available any other time during the week and you can come
and find him or arrange a time to meet. The final paper must be a substantive piece of work, or full
credit will be denied. If you are having difficulties, do not delay - come and ask for advice. However,
do not come to the instructors without first applying yourself to the task! This is independent
research that requires you to fully employ knowledge from your entire prior educational career, not
just what you learned since the last test.
