Developed as an ideal mid-ocean location for study of the deep ocean and coral reefs, the Bermuda Biological Station for Research (BBSR) is a key to
an enhanced understanding of the ocean around us. From its founding in 1903, scientists and students of BBSR have benefited from
the support of individuals, corporations, private foundations and government funding agencies. Since BBSR launched its most recent major fundraising campaign (in 1992), technological advances have changed
the face of deep ocean and coral reef research and education. BBSR is poised to play an even greater role worldwide as a center of new marine science technologies including deep-sea moorings, autonomous
underwater vehicles, satellite oceanography and distance-learning via the World Wide Web. But it needs resources to do so. The programs proposed as elements of BBSR's global campaign cumulatively represent a bold
vision... indeed, a New Horizon... for the Bermuda Biological Station for
Research. |
