BIOS Bids Farewell to Center of Excellence Students

On June 13, 2013 BIOS celebrated the achievements of the 2012/13 class of the Center of Excellence in Observational Oceanography (CofE).
Beginning this month, Bermuda has a new asset in its efforts to maximize the collective value of Bermuda’s ocean uses: Dr. Kevin Mayall, the island’s first Nearshore Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) Coordinator.
Dr. Gretchen Goodbody-Gringley, BIOS Postdoctoral Researcher, will be collaborating with the Ocean Support Foundation, the Bermuda DEP and the Bermuda Zoological Society to study Bermuda’s lionfish population.
The International SeaKeepers Society granted their 2013 SeaKeeper award to the 5-person Executive Committee of the Sargasso Sea Alliance, to recognize the efforts of the Bermuda-government led organization in working to protect the Sargasso Sea.
S3 student JD Symonds, now interning at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences, told them: “I am extremely proud to be the first recipient of the Nahgé O’Brien Science Award.”
