WOODS HOLE — The University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School of Oceanography has partnered with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the University of New Hampshire in a consortium that will operate the graduate school’s research vessel Endeavor and will also jointly submit a request to the National Science Foundation to operate a new ship.

Both the Endeavor and the new ship will be moored in Narragansett Bay at URI’s campus.

The East Coast Oceanographic Consortium is the product of five years of discussion with marine science institutions along the Eastern seaboard, according to a written statement from URI. Eleven of those institutions have signed on as associate members.
