BBSR Board welcomes six new members BBSR is delighted to announce the election of six new trustees to its board: Dr. Rita R. Colwell, Mr. Michael Hamer, Mrs. Joy Richardson, Mr. Ralph E. Richardson, the Honorable
Gerald D.E. Simons and Mrs. Katherine K. Watson.
Dr. Colwell is the chairman of Canon U.S. Life Sciences, Inc. She is a Distinguished University Professor at the University
of Maryland at College Park and at Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Colwell served as the 11th director of the U.S. National Science Foundation from 1998 to 2004 and has held many advisory positions in the
U.S. Government, nonprofit science policy organizations and private foundations, as well as in the international science community. Dr. Colwell is a member of the National Academy
of Sciences, the American Academy Arts and Sciences, and the American Philosophical Society.Mr. Hamer is the president and CEO of Albourne Atlantic Limited, a company
which provides advice on risk management, and asset and liability management with particular expertise in hedge fund investing. He is also a
director of the Masterworks Foundation, a member of the Advisory Board to the Insurance Admissions Committee, a director of Anchor Technology Group and an alternate director of Quantum, a fiber-optic
telecommunications company in Bermuda.
Mrs. Richardson is the immediate past president, CEO and director of Ram Reinsurance Company Ltd., with over 30
years experience in the industry. She has also served on the board of New York's Womens' Prison Association and was a co-founder of the 121st Street Neighborhood Association in
New York. Mrs. Richardson is a member of the Brick Presbyterian Church, New York, and currently serves on the board of The Family Center in Bermuda.
Mr. Richardson is the executive director of The ACE Foundation in Bermuda, which supports the local community
through employee matching gifts and volunteer reward programs, educational programs and scholarships, and financial support of more than 70 registered charitable
organizations per year. Mr. Richardson serves on several local boards and committees, is a corporation member of the Sea Education Association in Woods Hole, Massachusetts,
a past director of the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, past chairman of the Bermuda Ports Authority, and author of The Bermuda Boater.
Mr. Simons is the president and CEO and a director of Argus Insurance Company Limited. He is also the president of the
Health Insurance Association of Bermuda. Mr. Simons is a past president of the Bermuda Employers' Council and a director of various companies. He was a cabinet minister for
11 years and held posts that included Minister of Education, Minister of the Environment, and Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs. He is the president of the Bermuda
Philharmonic Society and a past president of the Bermuda National Trust.
Mrs. Watson has a long history of fundraising work in Bermuda. She has served on the Council on Alcohol and
Drug Abuse Executive Committee, is a past chairman of The Council Partners Fundraising Campaign, a past governor of The Council Partners Charitable Trust, and is governor of The
Council Partners Endowment Trust. Mrs. Watson is also the chairman of The Duperreault Fellowship Committee and is an elder at Christ Church, Warwick in Bermuda.
BBSR is also pleased to announce the election of two former trustees to its new Trustees Emeritus category: Mr. Hugh P. Lowenstein and Mrs. Margot Perot.
Mr. Lowenstein is the founder and CEO of Shore Capital Ltd. (Bermuda). He was previously a managing director of Capital Markets Group for Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Securities.
Mrs. Perot is a board member of the Dallas Museum of Art, a member of the Service League in Dallas, and a former vice-chairman of the National Advisory Board of the Salvation Army. |
