The Risk Prediction Initiative (RPI) of the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences, is a research and education program to facilitate communication between the science and business communities.

In order to better serve these communities we now use the service "Analytics" from Google (http://www.google.com/analytics/) to determine how we may better our web site. To that end RPI web site users will be offered a cookie to collect anonymous traffic data.

A cookie is a small text file containing data placed on the user's computer by, in this case, Google. This cookie is similar to an identification card that can only be accessed by Google while the user is visiting the RPI website in order to record information about your online preferences. These preferences are then used to help improve the content of the website to provide more relevant information to our users. Cookies can not read information saved on the hard drive and only transfer information that the user has disclosed to the website. Users have various options for accepting cookies depending on their browser. The options are typically:

2. receive notification when a cookies is issued
3. Block all cookies

We will not track or collect personally identifiable information of internet users, nor associate any data gathered from the RPI website with any personally identifying information from any source. We will not pass the information collected by Google for RPI on to any third party. The information will only be used within RPI
